Acai

An antioxidant is a biochemical that can neutralize harmful molecules in our bodies known as free radicals. Free radicals are produced during normal metabolism and cell function, as well as pollutants in our air, water and food, and have the ability to oxidize and damage our body's cells. A standard known as ORAC (oxygen radical absorption capacity) is often used to compare the relative strength of antioxidants. The Acai berry has received considerable attention as a naturally potent antioxidant in recent years. Acai rates very high on the ORAC scale. Pronounced “Ah-sigh-ee”, we welcome this Super Hero into our skin care toolbox and Anti-Ageing arsenal.

This berry has taken the natural beauty industry by storm. Upon discovery of this fruits’ extremely dark pigmentation, antioxidant levels were measured and found to be “off the hook”. We all know that antioxidants are the key to keeping skin youthful. By keeping inflammation down and maintaining the integrity of cellular structure and collage health in the skin, Acai is the latest and greatest antioxidant in this field. Acai has an ORAC rating that is four times greater than its nearest competitor. Watch Acai turn back the clock and support Numerology’s results driven skin care line to outshine all the rest!

Acetyl Hexapeptide-3

Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is an anti-aging skincare product that claims to reduce lines and wrinkles. It's meant to be another option for those who want younger-looking skin, but do not want to go through Botox™ injections, face-lifts, or other more invasive procedures. In addition, Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is much less expensive than those more widely used techniques.

Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is a topical solution containing a chain of amino acids called peptides. These peptides apparently restrict the neurotransmitters that control contraction of facial muscles. Unlike Botox, which paralyzes these muscles, it simply controls the severity of contractions. Skin movement is simply smoothed and relaxed rather than inhibited. It is believed that overuse of muscles is one of the leading causes of facial wrinkling.

Clinical studies of Acetyl hexapeptide-3 and its effects on wrinkles are available. According to a study done by International Journal of Cosmetic Science, it does work. The study used a topical cream concentration, which researchers claimed reduced wrinkles by 30% after a month of use. Regarding side effects and long-term use of this substance, those in the study reported no adverse effects.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has evolved herself over millennia to be the succulent, unparch-able, and restorative plant that she is. Thriving on intense drying heat and oxidizing sunlight, Aloe Vera becomes the juicy, moist and plump healer that we have all grown to love, revere and rely on.  Her chemical makeup is the antidote to the drying and aging elements *which forged Her.

The Egyptians revered this juicy beautifying succulent, and Cleopatra daily mashed up the gel of this plant onto her infamously beautiful face. The result is the stuff of legends.  Aloe Vera is a substance of perpetual youth and rapid healing. Naturally occurring MSM in the Aloe Vera leaf lends to this plant’s rejuvenating properties. Natural plant steroids and salicylic acid are delivered in the gel of Aloe Vera for soothed and nourished skin. As a potent source of living silica, Aloe Vera is excellent as a remedy for sun burns, toning, shrinking of pores, and hydration for all skin types. Aloe Vera makes it possible for the skin to regenerate itself daily with grace, beauty and radiance. Aloe Vera is a botanical moisturizing skin protecting humectant.

Arnica

Arnica is known to be anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic (reduces pain), and antiecchymotic (fights bruising). It has traditionally been used for the external treatment of sprains, bruises, swelling, muscle pain, varicose veins and hemorrhoids, inflammations, and rheumatic complaints. Arnica can also be used to treat athlete’s foot, as well as stimulate hair growth. It is said that Goethe, the German writer, poet, and scientist would ask for Arnica tea in his old age due to anginal pain he experienced as a result of coronary arteriosclerosis. Arnica grows wild in alpine meadows, and can be easily identified by its brightly colored yellow-orange flowers.

Astragalus

Astragalus is rich is polysaccharides, and has been used in traditional Chinese medicine as an adaptogen for thousands of years. It promotes the healing of damaged tissues, and medical studies have shown it to have anti-carcinogenic effects. This herb also increases the strength of T-cells, and studies have shown that cancer patients who opted to use this herb while undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation lived twice as long as those who did not supplement with Astragalus. It also improves urine flow, blood circulation, and decreases toxicity of the liver.

Avocado Oil

This ultra rich organic oil is a delightful treasure containing high amounts of Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, and E. It also contains amino acids, sterols, Pantothenic acid, Lecithin, and other essential fatty acids. Avocado oil is highly prized for those with skin problems such as Eczema, Psoriasis, and other skin ailments. It is highly recommended for those with sensitive skin, problem skin and other irritations that require vitamin rich oil.

Beeswax (Organic)

Beeswax is an organic hard wax produced by bees, and is used as a wax base to solidify formulas. It helps to create a soothing and healing layer of protection for the skin, hair and lips.

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay is a porous clay that comes from volcanic ash. It is used in facial masks to absorb oil, as an emulsifier, a thickener, and product stabilizer. Bentonite clay is also considered noncomedogenic.

Blue Tansy Essential Oil

Blue Tansy essential oil is steam distilled using wild-harvested Moroccan Blue Tansy flowers. It has a deep blue color due to its Chamulzine content, which is a highly anti-inflammatory compound modified from matracin that turns blue during the distillation process (this same change occurs when German Chamomile is distilled). Not to be confused with Tansy oil (which is generally not recommended for use by the majority of professional aroma therapists), Blue Tansy Oil is non-toxic, and has many similar properties to German 'Blue' Chamomile oil, but with a somewhat lighter and sweeter tone. The anti-inflammatory properties of Blue Tansy essential oil per drop will be slightly less than German Chamomile, yet the aroma is more widely appreciated. This particular Blue Tansy has a deep blue color and a warm, complex herbaceous sweetness. It is as though you are lying in a patch of wild blueberries deep in an old growth forest. It blends well with Lemongrass, Rosemary, Helichrysum, Cypress, Pine and Chamomile essential oils. It is especially nice in combination with many "needle" oils such as Fir and Black Spruce. With the addition of a small amount of carrier, this creates a somewhat masculine natural perfume.

For centuries, Blue Tansy has been used to relieve symptoms from an array of histamine-mediated allergic reactions. It is one of the primary essential oils recommended for sinus allergies, especially for children who don't mind a little "war paint" on their face (as it will be a bit blue at their sinus areas for a while). It's also one of the first choices for relief of itching or irritation from mosquito and other insect bites and stings. A drop may be place on "neat", or used in a soothing carrier such as Coconut or Tamanu oils. Blue Tansy promotes tissue regeneration in the skin, reduces inflammation, and can also be used to treat sunburns and bruises.

Borage Oil

Borage (borago officinalis) is a wildflower commonly called the "Starflower". It is a relatively large plant with star shaped bright blue flowers and is found wild in almost all parts of the world. Borage is a well-known herb that has been recognized and used for over 1500 years. Oil of Borage restores moisture and smoothness to dry and damaged skin, and provides rapid relief to people who suffer from chronic skin disorders such as Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis.

The Roman historian, Pliny wrote of the virtues of Borage, and in the Middle Ages, Borage leaves were commonly brewed into a medicinal tea. Today, the borage plant is grown and harvested not for its leaves and stems, but rather for the very valuable oil found in its seeds. The great value of Borage oil lies in the fact that it is the richest known source (24%) of an essential fatty acid called gamma- linolenic acid (GLA).

The human body is capable of naturally producing gamma-linolenic acid, but in order to do so, it must first have linoleic acid (LA) as its starting material. LA is an essential fatty acid that our body is unable to make, and thus must be ingested as part of our everyday diet. Fortunately, we get plenty of linoleic acid in our daily diet because it is commonly found in almost all edible vegetable oils. Once linoleic acid has been  ingested, it is converted into GLA by an enzyme called Delta-6- Desaturase (D6D). The GLA is then further converted, via a sequence of biochemical steps, into a very important compound called prostaglandin 1 (PG1), a key molecule for maintaining healthy skin. PG1 exhibits a potent anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and also is very effective in regulating water loss and protecting skin from injury and damage (2).

The D6D enzyme is often referred to as a "lazy" enzyme. That is to say, it can be slow in doing its job, and under some conditions may actually be impaired. People with skin disorders such as Eczema, Atopic Dermatitis, and Psoriasis show increased levels of linoleic acid with a simultaneous decrease in gamma-linolenic acid (3). This evidence strongly suggests a reduction in the activity of the D6D enzyme. As a consequence, the resulting decrease in the synthesis of PG1 may be responsible for the characteristic dry skin and trans-epidermal water loss observed in these people. It is here that the importance of borage oil, with its rich source of gamma-linolenic acid, becomes evident. When used topically, borage oil can circumvent a "lazy" or impaired D6D enzyme by supplying the body directly with GLA and thus allowing the production of normal levels of PG1. The end result is smooth, clear, supple, calm and even-toned skin.

Botanical Hyaluronic Acid (Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide)

Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the extracellular matrix of human tissue. When applied topically, hyaluronic acid forms an air permeable layer and penetrates into the dermis, thus boosting the elasticity and hydration of the skin. The protective breathable barrier on the skin locks in moisture, which gives the skin a youthful appearance. The cuticle layer of the skin normally contains 10-20% water, however as we age it can drop to below 10%. Hyaluronic acid comes to the rescue with its unique ability to hold more than 1000 times its weight in water. Amazingly, hyaluronic acid adjusts its moisture absorption based on the relative humidity in the air. It is the ideal moisturizing ingredient in skin care products as it adjusts to the skins need for a moisturizing effect depending on the relative humidity of seasons and climate of an area. Hyaluronic acid also protects the epidermis by scavenging reactive oxygen species generated by ultra violet light that would otherwise cause sunspots.

In order to remain in alignment with our company mission and vision to be in service to a healthy, thriving and cruelty free planet, Numerology only works with a hyaluronic acid that is purely plant based. It is extremely difficult to guarantee that most hyaluronic acid products are not animal derived. Horses and roosters and other animals are routinely utilized as the source for hyaluronic acid ingredients. Numerology is committed to a pure botanical hyaluronic acid ingredient that is derived solely from polysaccharides extracted from the seed of an Indian plant known as Cassia Angustifolia. This pure botanical hyaluronic acid forms a protective film on the skin that strongly binds water and fills in fine lines. It provides intense skin hydration while simultaneously plumping up the skin. This further helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and to smooth the skins surface. As a result of the smoother surface, light reflection is also improved, leading to increased skin radiance.

Calendula

Calendula was first used by the Romans to treat scorpion bites, and old herbal doctors recommended regularly applying Calendula as a way to prevent gangrene. It supports the connective tissues of the skin, and is good for healing all types of skin irritations and injuries such as burns, rashes, cuts and varicose veins. Due to its natural content of Iodine, it is considered to be one of the best antiseptics available.

Carrageenan Gum

Carrageenan Gum is a natural stabilizer and emulsifier with wonderful humectant properties for the skin and hair.

Castor Oil (Organic)

Organic Castor oil is a natural oil derived from Organic Castor beans. It is a hard and shiny oil, and acts as a barrier agent and protective medium against harsh conditions and extremes. It is very soothing to the skin when included in cosmetic applications, and is rich in nourishing fatty acids. It protects and lubricates the skin, and also acts as a humectant, attracting moisture to the skin.

Cetyl Alcohol

Cety Alcohol is a fatty alcohol used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener, and carrying agent for other ingredients. Numerology uses a naturally derived Cetyl alcohol that comes from coconuts. It is not an irritant and is not related to SD alcohol or ethyl alcohol. The term “alcohol” here is a real disservice to this ingredient as it is really a fat substance. It is usually produced from Palm oil, but is also found in Coconut and other vegetable oils (it can be made synthetically too). Considered by some sources to be non-comodogenic, it acts a moisturizer (not at all a drying alcohol).

Chamomile

The Greeks referred to chamomile as “ground apple”, while the Cherokee Indians used it in cases of colic, vomiting and bowel complaints. It helps one to relax and aids digestion and bowel problems. It is an effective easer of menstrual cramps, as well as helping one to sleep, and has even been recommended for people who experience nightmares (especially children). In skin care, Chamomile is used to aid in the healing of damaged tissues, and is a superb anti aging skin care ingredient for those with sensitive skin.

Citric Acid

Citric acid is a natural preservative, and is often used to adjust the pH of a product.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter is one of the most stable, highly concentrated natural fats known to man. It is a luscious moisturizing butter that slows down moisture loss, encourages collagen production, prevents and reduces stretch marks, and deeply conditions dry and cracked skin. It has been used for centuries in Africa to protect and condition skin that has been damaged by the sun and wind, and by massage therapists to sooth overexerted and sore muscles.

Cocoa Butter contains something known as cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), which is a substance that inhibits the production of the immuno globulin known to aggravate symptoms of both Dermatitis and asthma; this makes it a superb botanical butter for people who struggle with skin irritations. Cocoa Butter also contains natural antioxidants that act as free radical scavengers, in turn effectively preventing the skin from prematurely aging.

Coconut Oil (Organic)

Organic Coconut oil contains very strong antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties. It is a very good source of lauric acid, which is known for its moisturizing and acne fighting abilities.  The virgin coconut oil used in Numerology is cold-pressed, pure, natural and unrefined. It is extracted from freshly harvested coconuts using a wet milling process that uses neither chemicals nor high heat. The result is a clear coconut oil that contains all of the naturally occurring antioxidants found in Coconut oil.

Coltsfoot

Coltsfoot is most commonly used for its inflammation fighting properties, but it also acts as an antioxidant and regenerative substance for the skin. Historically, Coltsfoot has been considered one of the best herbal remedies for coughs for more than two thousand years, and has been used throughout history as a remedy for asthma. It is soothing to the mucous membranes, resolves wheezing, and can also be used to relieve insect bites and stings, as well as skin irritations and burns.

Cranberry

Cranberry is used in Numerology for its antioxidant content. It contains a very high amount of vitamin C, and this led the Native Americans to revere it as a potent medicine and the pilgrims to use it for the prevention of scurvy. Vitamin C is extremely effective at stimulating collagen production and fighting the negative effects of photo aging on the skin. This means that dark spots, wrinkles, poor skin texture and premature aging are all prevented and improved when using a vitamin C packed ingredient such as Cranberry. Cranberry is also a potent anti inflammatory, fights redness, brightens a dull complexion, and improves skin texture.

Crithmum Maritimum Extract (Plant Based Retinol)

The ocean is the birthplace of life. In this aqueous cauldron over 3.5 billion years ago, the elements that would eventually make up all bio-material on the planet were starting to percolate. To this day, the seas are swimming with a rich diversity of plant and animal organisms. And on the craggy shores of such crisp, nutrient rich oceans, grows Sea Fennel. Fed by the silica in the sand and the immense amounts of nutrients carried by ocean waters and breezes, Sea Fennel (known in the Private Label Personal Care world by its scientific name: Crithmum Maritimum) has long been honored for its healing and medicinal purposes. Today, the extract of Sea Fennel is one of THE best skin care ingredients for anti-aging and over-all skin strength and luster. Sea Fennel Extract softens the skin, unclogs pores, boosts collagen, reduces fine lines, speeds cell turnover and evens out skin discoloration and texture. It enables the epidermis to regain its youth and vitality and improves radiance and tone. The secret of this blue-green, beauty-bestowing plant is it’s rich, bio-available nutrients! Sea Fennel Extract is often considered a plant alternative to Retinol– but we think of it as an upgrade! Retinol and, more generally, retinoids are synthetic versions of Vitamin A. Used in many skin care products to refine texture and boost the skin’s glow, synthetic Retinoids are actually only partially effective because their nourishment isn’t bio-available. This is because synthetic ingredients are lacking natural synergists that make themselves recognizable to the body. When a vitamin, mineral, protein, etc. enters the body as a synthetic ingredient, the body does not realize it is there because it does not have the natural counterparts that normally accompany and help it to activate. The result is that the nutrient goes unprocessed and unused. Sea Fennel, which is lush with radiance-delivering sea-minerals, vitamins A, C, and E, amino acid peptides, antioxidant pigments and polyphenols can effectively stimulate skin renewal and boost collagen and elastin because those nutrients are bio available! They come in a complete package that the skin understands and knows how to process and integrate. The result is harmony and the highest manifestation of beauty!

Cucumber Hydrosol

Hydrosols are exquisite aromatic waters derived from fruits, herbs, plants, and flowers that have been distilled to produce essential oils. They are hydrating, nurturing, healing, protective, cleansing, and restorative to the skin when applied topically. Cucumber is cooling, healing and soothing for all skin types. As inflammation is one of the root causes of aging skin, Cucumber hydrosol is considered a key player in the prevention of it.

Cucumber Hydrosol is friendly and helpful for all skin types and conditions.

Dandelion

Dandelions Latin name, Taraxacum, comes from the Greek word “taraxos” meaning, “disorder remedy”. The greens of the Dandelion plant contain seven thousand units of vitamin A per ounce, making it one of the best herbs possible for anything related to the skin and connective tissues. It is rich in antioxidants, and thus reduces fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, as well as adding tone and firmness to saggy, flaccid skin. Dandelion is also known to possess strong germicidal, fungicidal and insecticidal properties, and as a result has been used to treat Eczema, warts, athlete’s foot and other similar skin conditions. It is a powerful and well rounded anti aging skin care ingredient that adds a broad spectrum of therapeutic properties to the Numerology formulations.

Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin

This is a natural and gentle preservative derived from glycerin and is used in various skin, hair, and body care formulations.

Evening Primrose Oil

Evening Primrose oil is pressed from the seeds of the Evening Primrose plant, a yellow, night blooming wildflower that grows all over North America, Europe and parts of Asia.  It was used by the Native Americans and early settlers to treat conditions such as sore throats, hemorrhoids and bruises, and it has been used medicinally in Europe since the seventeenth century. As an antioxidant, anti inflammatory and essential fatty acid rich emollient, it provides the skin with a high percentage of GLA, making it an invaluable oil for maintaining healthy skin cell function.

Eyebright

The origin of the name Eyebright comes from the Greek word Euphrosyne, meaning “gladness”. Eyebright is traditionally used for problems relating to the mucous membranes, and is quite effective in treating chronic and acute inflammations of the eye. In the case of anti aging skin care, Eyebright acts as a powerful anti inflammatory herb, and assists in the healing of wounded tissue and acne. It also acts as an astringent, which makes it a great ingredient for tightening and toning the skin.

Fennel

Fennel is high in many anti aging antioxidants, specifically kaemoferol, quercetin, and superoxide dismutase. Kaemoferol and quercetin are both known to prevent degenerative reactions in the skin, and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant super hero that is found naturally in the human body. As we age, our body’s production of SOD drops, leaving us more vulnerable to oxidative stress and the negative effects it has on our appearance. Including Fennel in our anti aging formulas makes up for this natural drop in SOD, and effectively keeps our skin smooth, supple and young. Fennel also boasts a high vitamin A content, as well as antiseptic properties, making it useful in the treatment and prevention of acne, the healing of scars, and brightening of one’s complexion.

Flax Seed Oil

Flax Seed Oil is nature’s richest plant source of Omega-3 EFA’s at approximately 54%. The Omega-3 EFA’s found in Flaxseed oil help to repair skin cells, smooth wrinkles., reduce tissue inflammation and redness, and moisturize dry skin. It is also a therapeutic and nourishing oil for skin conditions such Eczema and Psoriasis.

Globularia Cordifolina Callus Culture Extract (Plant Stem Cells)

This extract (also know as Plant Stem Cell) is derived from Globularia Cordifolia, a plant native to the mountains of central and southern Europe, and grown via plant stem cells. A New Technology Award nominee, this active ingredient helps skin to naturally decrease the level of pro-aging agents while reducing toxin-induced micro inflammations. This French developed constituent also works to soothe the skin, reduce redness, and improve evenness.

Glycolic Acid

As the skin renews itself every few weeks, most dead skin cells are naturally sloughed off the surface of the skin. But some dead skin cells remain, causing skin to feel slightly rough and appear uneven in texture.  When applied to the skin in low concentrations, glycolic acid gently breaks down the glue that adheres dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. By dissolving these proteins, the skin is made softer, smoother and more even in appearance.
Products like serums, moisturizers and treatment creams are better able to penetrate the skin after use of glycolic acid, as only the new, healthy skin cells are exposed.

Alpha-hydroxy acid skin care products are often used for acne-prone skin types. Glycolic acid has the smallest molecular structure of all the alpha-hydroxy acids, allowing it to better penetrate the skin's pores.
While glycolic acid will help reduce acne, such as whiteheads and blackheads, on the surface of the skin, it also can penetrate deep into the pore, killing Propionibacterium, the bacterium that causes whiteheads and other breakouts.
Over time and with regular use of glycolic acid, acne-prone skin types will see a reduction in new breakouts.

Gotu Kola

There is a Sinhalese proverb about Gotu Kola that says, “Two leaves a day keep old age away”, and that’s why we love it! Gotu Kola is one of the most important adaptogenic herbs in the ancient Indian system of Ayurveda. Because it is an adaptogen, it teaches the skin to more effectively adapt to stress, and helps in the healing of skin trauma and inflammation. Gotu Kola is soothing to chronic skin conditions such as Eczema and acne, and the triterpenoids in Gotu Kola have been shown to strengthen the skin and increase blood flow to affected areas, which means quicker and more significant skin regeneration.

Grapeseed Oil

It has been used for centuries as a wash for swollen eyelids, and is a perfect anti aging herb due to its high content of silica. It promotes collagen formation, improves skin texture,  and protects the skin from free radical damage due to a variety of bioflavonoids and of course, antioxidants.

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is primarily used as a gelling and thickening agent in cosmetics, skin care, and hair care products. Derived from the organic compound cellulose, this non-ionic, water-soluble polymer improves the effectiveness of cleaning and personal care products by helping them dissolve into water.

Jojoba Oil

Golden Jojoba oil is not an actual oil, but rather a liquid plant wax. Its chemistry is similar to human sebum and is thus good for those whose skin does not do well with other plant oils. Jojoba is an invaluable botanical for those who suffer from dry and oily skin because it teaches the skin to produce an appropriate amount of sebum. This is a very unique quality, and one that sets Jojoba apart from many other moisturizing plant oils. And just as it regulates sebum production, it is also very effective at unclogging congested pores, making Jojoba oil a truly unique and dual-acting Numerology skin care ingredient.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin clay, also known as “China clay”, is a soft white clay that absorbs excess facial oil and serves as an anti-caking agent.

It has been used in Asia for soothing burns and rashes, and is very nourishing to the skin due to its sulfur amino acid and iodine content. Kelp has anti-inflammatory and disinfectant properties, as well as a notably high vitamin A content.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is derived from milk, and is prized by estheticians for the tightening and hydrating effect it has on the skin. Cleopatra understood its beauty benefits, and it is said that the infamous Egyptian beauty bathed in milk every day. The Lactic acid in the milk facilitated the cellular turnover of her skin and revealed smooth, even toned, healthy and vibrant skin. It still works just the same for our skin today.

Lavender

Lavender is an antiseptic, and has been used by the French to heal wounds for years. Because of Lavender’s antiseptic properties it is useful in the treatment of acne and other bacterial skin issues. Lavender also relieves inflammation, making it an absolute must in Numerology beauty formulas.

Licorice

Today, Licorice is a valuable ingredient in anti aging skin care due to the brightening effect it has on the skin. Pigmentation issues such as melasma, sun spots and dark scars are greatly improved when Licorice is used.

Lime Essential Oil

Lime essential oil is antibacterial and anti-infectious, which means it helps to clear up acne prone skin. It also tones the skin, and the aroma of Lime essential oil is uplifting and promotes mental clarity. Most notably though is how Lime essential oil stimulates blood flow to the skin. Proper circulation is a crucial part of what it takes to have a glowing and healthy complexion, and that is exactly why Lime essential oil is included in Numerology formulations.

Macadamia Nut Oil

This fine oil comes from the pressed nuts of the Macadamia tree. It is a priceless delight for the skin and has proven itself to be one of the best regenerative oils available. It is high in monounsaturated fatty acids, and closely resembles sebum (the oil naturally produced by ones skin to help protect it). Macadamia nut oil is a fabulous, protective oil with a high absorption rate and has been successfully used as a healing oil for scars, sunburns, minor wounds and other irritations.

Magnolia Essential Oil

Magnolia flowers have been revered by the people of India for thousands of years. The scent of Magnolia blossoms is calming while also promoting mental clarity, and the scent is soft and floral. "Leung's Encyclopedia of Common Natural Ingredients" states that the oil of Magnolia flowers has been used historically in China to minimize the irritation caused by some cosmetic ingredients. It can also help lighten dark spots and even out skin tone. Magnolia essential oil is an effective treatment for pimples and infections, and also acts as a moisturizer.

Matrixyl 3000

There are short-term anti-wrinkle systems and long-term ones. Amongst the short-term are treatments such as Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (or Argireline, which is the trademarked name for AH-3).  They are supposed to work on the muscles that cause wrinkle formation. It is the same principle as Botox, but much, much milder and lasts no more than an hour or so after application. Long-term anti aging systems attempt to boost collagen production or repair DNA.

So, what is Matrixyl? Basically it’s a peptide. Creams these days frequently boast about being packed full of peptides, but are not specific as to which peptide is being referred to. Matrixyl is palmitoyl-pentapeptide 3, which is a peptide that specifically stimulates collagen synthesis and skin repair. This means it qualifies as a long-term anti aging system.

However, there is something that could be even better than Matrixyl: Matrixyl 3000.

There is no point comparing Matrixyl and Matrixyl 3000 since the only thing they have in common is the name. Matrixyl 3000 is made from two new peptides that have nothing to do with the palmitoyl-pentapeptide 3 that is in the original Matrixyl. The two new peptides are palmitoyl-tripeptide and palmitoyl-oligopeptide. They are supposed work synergistically to mimic the appearance of this broken down collagen, causing your skin to react by producing more collagen and elastin. The company that owns the patent has conducted research on two panels of 23 volunteers aged from 39 to 74 to demonstrate that Matrixyl 3000 is more effective than the original Matrixyl at regulating skin cell activity. Their data is limited, however.

In early 2013 University of Reading researchers found that Matrixyl 3000 can nearly double the amount of the protein collagen needed to give skin its elasticity. The team is led by Professor Hamley, who is something of a peptide-file and has been looking at ways to stimulate collagen for wound healing.

Menthol

Menthol is a cooling agent derived from peppermint.

MSM

MSM is a naturally occurring, organically bound dietary sulfur that participates in every function of the human body. MSM facilitates the exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients, which greatly promote the healing process of skin and connective tissue. Sulfur is a completely bioavailable compound that is greatly needed for enzyme activity, hormone balance, and function of the immune system. MSM is a CENTRAL component of collagen, as well as assisting in the prevention of inflammation and the reparation of damaged tissue and cells. Basically what this all translates into is an active ingredient that boosts the efficacy of Numerology products one hundred fold. It also promotes cellular regeneration and collagen synthesis at profoundly substantial levels.

Because MSM is an anti-inflammatory and increases blood flow to all cells in the body, the result is less collagen breakdown and younger, healthier skin. MSM is one of the most basic building blocks of the structure of the human body. Without the proper amount of sulfur in our system, we cannot produce good, healthy cells. Clinical experiments have shown that MSM gives up its sulfur to form the collage and keratin of the skin, nails, and hair to form the essential amino acids methionine, cysteine, and serum proteins.  When the body replaces old skin cells, if there is a sulfur deficiency, the new cells are stiff and contribute to wrinkling. MSM helps the body replace “bad” cells with new, healthy, elastic cells. In time, wrinkles disappear, brown and black spots fade and new cells replace damaged cells.

Applied topically, MSM readily penetrates the skin and enters the blood stream. Our skin cells know exactly how to receive MSM into themselves, and the healing effects can be felt and observed immediately. MSM also acts as a powerful solvent, driving all other active ingredients in a formulation deep into the cells of the skin. We have yet to find one drawback to having MSM in EVERYTHING!

Oregon Grape

Simply put, Oregon Grape is a supreme antioxidant. What does that mean? First, consider that your body is constructed of cells.  A cell, in order to be the type of cell it happens to be (nerve cell, muscle cell, brain cell, or liver cell), must maintain the integrity of its energy signature.  The cell's energy signature is in its molecules, which are constructed of atoms.  Molecules are groups of atoms magnetized together by an electromagnetic force field, known as a chemical bond.

During the onset of disease and aging, the bonds that hold the molecules together break.  Now you have two molecular fragments.  For the bond to exist, it must have a pair of electrons.  A molecular fragment with only one electron behaves in a highly unstable fashion, and is known as a free radical.

Free radicals are referred to as being “single”- but not for long. This free radical wants to be mated. It goes about finding a paired electrons to steal, punching a hole through the wall of a cell membrane and rupturing its DNA, hacking into the genetic code and destroying enzymes to get what it wants - a new electron.  It's like a vampire sucking the life-force from its victim and then discarding the lifeless husk.

If its victim happens to survive the attack, it also becomes a vampire in search of an electron – another free radical.

This cellular damage is called oxidation.  It is what allows an iron bar to rust and crumble to nothing.  This is why we require concentrated antioxidants (from plants like Oregon Grape) which are so loaded with extra electrons that they can give electrons back to damaged cells, making them healthy and whole once again.

Rosehip Seed Oil (Organic)

Rosehip seed oil is truly an amazing product, as it is believed to be the best oil available for anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation. Rosehip seed oil is extracted from the seeds of a rose plant that grows wild in Chile. The oil has been used by native people in Chile for centuries, and has only been validated by scientists fairly recently. The first major confirmation of its capabilities came in 1983, when the University of Santiago conducted research on 180 individuals. These tests studied people with extensive facial scarring, acne scarring, deep wrinkles, UV damage, radiation damage, burn scars, surgical scars, premature aging, dermatitis, and other skin related problems. In these tests, Rosehip seed oil regenerated the skin, reduced scars and wrinkles, prevented the advancement of wrinkles and aging, and helped skin to regain its natural color and tone. Since this time, other universities and labs have also completed studies on Rosehip Seed oil, and all have yielded positive results.

Another well-known study conducted in 1988 was done on twenty women between the ages of 25-35. Their skin was wrinkled and riddled with sun spots from overexposure to the sun. After four months of applying rosehip seed oil daily, their wrinkles and sun spots had almost completely disappeared, and their skin had a more fresh and healthy look. Today, Rosehip Seed oil is exported around the world, and is used by the medical community, as well as the beauty industry. Rosehip seed oil contains Vitamin A, which helps to delay the effects of skin aging, assists with cell regeneration, and promotes the increase of collagen and elastin levels. This results in firmer, smoother, and more youthful skin.

Rosehip seed oil also contains a high amount of vitamin E and essential fatty acids, particularly linoleic and linolenic acids, which are both very important anti aging skin care nutrients. Rosehip seed oil has been used successfully to treat stretch marks, UV damage, surgical scars, burns, acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, wrinkles and premature skin aging, hyper-pigmentation, Dermatitis, age spots, brittle nails, and dry and damaged hair. It is effortlessly absorbed by the skin, and does not leave a greasy residue.

Silk Protein Amino Acid Blend

Amino acids are the basis for all living tissue on Earth. The skin is a living, breathing organ and needs an abundant supply of amino acids to function properly. These natural miracles are the very building blocks needed for the creation of important skin proteins like collagen and elastin. Without amino acids the skin simply cannot function properly. These selected amino acids are essential to healthy skin. The amino acids found in Numerology’s Silk Protein Amino Acid Blend are exactly the same amino acids found in collagen and elastin.

Each amino acid is made from plant sources and is painstakingly purified. These amino acids are then carefully blended to match the optimum amino acid composition in collagen. By utilizing the unique delivery system in this amino acid blend, the skin now has access to the amino acids it needs in order to beautify and repair itself on a daily basis.

Amino acids are the main moisture retention factors in human skin. Topical application of amino acids has shown to dramatically increase moisture content while decreasing visible lines. In addition, amino acids help in the production of collagen and elastin, regulate sebaceous gland activity and decrease discoloration. Free radicals are unbalanced molecules caused by the sun, environment and pollution. These unbalanced molecules randomly bounce around inside skin cells and cause damage to important cellular tissues, including DNA structures. Amino acids are natural free radical scavengers that seek and neutralize free radicals to help prevent the damage done by them.

The amino acids found in the Silk Protein Amino Acid Blend are as follows:

  • L-Proline: Important in maintaining radiant and youthful skin.
  • L-Histidine: Protects the body from radiation and sun damage, and neutralizes free radicals.
  • L-Arginine: Speeds the healing of skin cell damage and wounds.
  • L-Lysine: Skin conditioning agent. Involved in cellular and tissue repair. Essential amino acid needed for collagen production.
  • L-Glycine: Repairs damaged tissue and promotes healing.
  • L-Isoleucine: Branched chain amino acid. Important in protein synthesis and tissue repair.
  • L-Tyrosine: A building block of protein used to help the moisturizing products penetrate the skin. Converted by skin cells into melanin that protects against harmful effects of UV light.
  • L-Leucine: Branched chain amino acid. Protects against muscle protein breakdown.
  • L-Glutamine: Helps prevent muscle and tissue breakdown.
  • L-Valine: Branched chain amino acid. Important for muscular and tissue strength.
  • L-Threonine: Important for the formation of collagen and elastin.
  • L-Methionine: Neutralizes free radicals and fights aging of the skin.
  • L-Alanine: Important in protein synthesis.
  • L-Acetyl Tyrosine: Highly bio-available form of L-Tyrosine, a building block of protein.
  • L-Aspartic Acid: Involved in building skin cell DNA (genetic structure in the nucleolus).
  • L-Serine: Important in formation of cell membranes.
  • L-Phenylalanine: Building blocks for various proteins. It can be converted to L-Tyrosine.

On the anti aging skin care front, it is nothing short of incredible. It has been shown to heal chapped skin, post-surgical wounds, cracked skin, bedsores, wounds, rashes, abrasions, athletes foot, boils, and infected nails. Tamanu oil has even been used to heal severe burns caused by boiling water, chemicals and x-rays. It’s anti inflammatory properties reduce rashes, sores, swelling and abrasions. Tamanu oil promotes tissue regeneration, and is especially helpful in the reduction of unsightly scars.

BioScience Laboratories conducted a study of Tamanu oil’s ability to improve the appearance of scars. Six subjects with obvious scars aged for one year or more participated in the test. Subjects were not allowed to use moisturizers on their scarred areas for seven days before the test or throughout the nine-week test period. Scars were rated for roughness, length, width and degree of difference from surrounding normal skin. Measurements of darkness and redness were also taken for scarred and surrounding normal skin. Digital photos of scars were taken prior to initial application and at the end of week nine. Tamanu oil was applied to the scarred area twice daily for nine consecutive weeks. The study showed that there was significant improvement in appearance of the scars after six weeks, and improvement continued through week nine. Total scar length was reduced by an average 0.28 centimeters, and width was reduced by an average 0.12 centimeters!

Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)

Panthenol is a non-irritating form of Vitamin B that is usually derived from plants. It reduces inflammation, soothes irritations and initiates the rebuilding of damaged skin. It also fights harmful, acne causing bacteria. When this natural, hydrating vitamin is applied externally, it penetrates deep into the lower skin layers, is absorbed into the skin cells and then turns into Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5). Over the last twenty years, Panthenol has been effectively used to treat sunburns, irritations, dryness and minor skin disorders. It helps to diminish wrinkles by infusing the deeper layers of the skin with essential moisture, resulting in a more plump and firm complexion.

Vitamin C

The cutting edge of skin care research shows that aging skin is the result of more than just years on the calendar. Exposure to environmental elements like sunlight, smoke, and air pollution causes photo aging in skin. Not only does this lead to the formation of lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation - it can lead to more serious skin conditions, including skin cancer. A comprehensive Vitamin C program can help prevent photo aging and the onset of more serious skin conditions. Topical vitamin C has now been shown to provide up to eight times the skins natural protection from UV damage. Sunscreens are, of course, an important part of the prevention process, but they cannot do it alone. Vitamin C protects your skin from the sun in ways that sunscreens can’t. When used together, Vitamin C and sunscreens provide almost complete photo-protection - preventing photo aging, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and promoting vibrant skin health.

Oxidative damage shows up on our faces in the form of sun spots, discoloration, wrinkles, sagging, loss of elasticity and glow. Vitamin C prevents oxidative damage by neutralizing oxygen-free radicals before they can attack the body. Some Vitamin C is available to the body by oral ingestion, but many individuals do not achieve even the minimum daily requirement through diet or supplements. Furthermore, Vitamin C cannot be stored in the body, and so must be reintroduced into the body AND skin on a daily basis. Continued research has demonstrated that properly formulated vitamin C combinations work synergistically to provide enhanced anti aging benefit. Recent studies show that topical application of optimized Vitamin C combinations can provide up to eight-fold antioxidant protection, ninety-six percent reduction of sunburn cells, and prevent the formation of free radicals in UV irradiated skin (sun exposed skin).

Numerology formulations contain a superior and uniquely stabilized vitamin C called Stay C 50. Stay C 50 is water soluble and easily bio-converted to Vitamin C by skin enzymes. Ascorbyl palmitate is the more commonly used form of vitamin C in skin care formulations today, but is not as easily utilized by the skin. We opted to go with Stay C 50 because of how bio available, and thus more effective, it is for anti aging skin care.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that also helps to prevent skin care formulations from going rancid. It greatly accelerates skin healing and is used a lot in burn and scar medical therapy units to assist in wound healing. Because it is an antioxidant, it prevents the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging. It is also a very gentle antioxidant, and many people with sensitive skin find that they can use vitamin E generously without any irritation.
