MOISTURIZER VERSUS SERUM

Posted by Numerology Skin Care on

You’ve seen them on the internet and at the store- serums claiming to moisturize your skin, and moisturizers claiming to have superior anti aging properties. It can get confusing. What product should you use? Which one is better? Can you layer them, or should they be used alone? These are all great and very important questions when it comes to your anti aging skincare protocol, and rest assured that there is an answer. Though no hard lines exist when it comes to which kind of product you choose, there are some guidelines you can keep in mind when deciding between a moisturizer and a serum.

First and foremost, the quality of the product needs to be taken into consideration. There’s no point in using a moisturizer if the ingredients and formula are less than the best, and the same goes for a serum. In some cases, your skin could actually get more hydration from a high quality serum than from a sub par moisturizer, so make sure that the quality of the brand and product that you are considering is the best possible.

Secondly, you want to look at the ingredients. Serums that contain botanical hyaluronic acid have a good chance of hydrating your skin at a level that a moisturizer may not be able to. Also look to see what kind of plant lipids each product contains, as those are the ingredients that will offer both moisture and anti aging properties. Typically, the main difference between a serum and a moisturizer is that one contains more lipids than the other, so if you know that your skin has a high demand for lots of luscious plant oils, then a high quality moisturizer might be your best bet.

On the flip side, some people find that they can use a serum that has both a high plant lipid content and a high anti aging ingredient content. The only difference being that a serum is usually lighter than a moisturizer. If you find that your skin likes a lot of moisture but without the traditional heaviness or creaminess of a moisturizer, then go for an anti aging skincare serum with plenty of botanical hyaluronic acid.

At the end of the day, we have found that combining products yields the best and most beneficial results. If you find yourself having a hard time choosing between a serum and a moisturizer, it could be as simple as mixing a squirt of each together to create the perfect anti aging skincare cocktail.
