Gotta get out the door quickly? Traveling to a different climate and don’t want your skin to breakout? Ran out of your favorite cleanser and now it’s on backorder? Whether we like it or not, sometimes life throws a new situation at us that isn’t exactly ideal for our skin. When times like this strike, there are some simple tricks you can use to minimize the occurrence of any potential negative effects so your anti aging skincare goals don’t get interrupted.
For when you run out of your regular anti aging skincare: When this happens, the best thing to do is keep it minimal. This is especially true if you have naturally more sensitive skin. Going out and using a completely new cleanser, for example, might be a little too shocking for your skin and cause a temporary breakout- not exactly what you want to be experiencing. Instead, try washing with warm water and a washcloth, or even oil cleanse with some Jojoba (it won’t clog your pores and will easily remove dirt and makeup).
For when you’re short on time: Once again, the best thing to do is keep it simple. You don’t need a lot to take care of your skin, so if you’re pressed for time in the morning before work, keep it simple and stick to the basics like your favorite vitamin C serum or moisturizer. If you use both everyday, try simply mixing them together in your hand and applying that before you head out the door.
For when you’re traveling: Traveling can send your skin into a skydive. The time change, lack of sleep and climate difference are all factors that increase your skin’s stress burden, and it often shows up as a breakout. If you’ve got a trip coming up, the best thing to do is keep your tried and true basics on hand, and give your skin a 24-48 hour grace period where you allow it to adapt. During this period, it’s a good idea to potentially not do anything, other than perhaps wash it if you wear makeup. If the climate is super moist, hold off on the moisturizer, and if it’s super dry, use some at night so your skin has the time to rest and rehydrate.
When it comes to life, things don’t always go our way. The best we can do is stay adaptable and ready for a challenge. No matter the circumstances, if you stay flexible and apply a little bit of strategy, you’ll be able to finesse your way through any and all skincare curve balls life throws at you.
